Miguel Starcevich is a Los Angeles-based visual artist working in mixed-media painting, sculptural assemblage, and body-based installation. His practice explores the human figure as something built, broken, and rebuilt - through layers of synthetic material and physical imprint.
Though widely recognized for his past work as a photographer, Starcevich has spent decades developing a visual language rooted in surface, tension, and transformation. His paintings are composed using spatula-applied acrylic, oil crayon, pencil, pen, tape, and pigment, building textured grounds that recall skin - marked, provisional, and resistant to resolution. In contrast, his nude human-sculpture interventions incorporate tape, cardboard, and plastic, using the body itself as a medium to confront the line between gesture and artifact.
Starcevich’s work carries the atmosphere of survival without naming it. Each form suggests a memory held in material, a site shaped by exposure and concealment. His visual language is one of rupture and revision, where history, both personal and shared, is not depicted but embedded in the act of making.
